**BULLETIN NO. 1, DATED 11.10.2024, Time 22:30 PM**
Train no. 12578 Mysuru-Darbhanga Express had a rear-end collision with a goods train at Kavaraippettai Railway Station around 20.30 hrs in the Chennai Guddur section between Ponneri- Kavarappettai railway stations (46 km from Chennai) of Chennai Division.
This train, consisting of LHB coaches, passed Ponneri railway station at 20.27 hrs and was given a green signal to run through the next station Kavaraipettai via the mainline. While entering the Kavaraipettai station, the train crew experienced a heavy jerk and instead of going into the main line as per the line clear & signals given, the train entered into the Loop/line at 75 kmph & hit the stabled Goods train in the loop line. Due to this, the parcel van which was next to the Engine caught fire, which was doused by the Fire brigade. A total of 12-13 coaches have derailed. So far, no casualties are reported. All injured passengers are moved to nearby hospitals for further treatment. Train movement in both directions is closed.
Doctors, ambulances, medical relief van & rescue teams have reached the site and Senior Officers of Southern Railway are at the site and monitoring the situation.
