Allp station doesnt have a full fledged pit line which can manage 22 coaches. What they have is a shorter one. SM of 13352 is done in Allp. I have heard the following

(1) Through extension this will reduce a dedicated set of people from Mechanical section who are deployed at Allp only for this train.
(2) By extending to KCVL, stations like
...
KYJ, Kollam, TVC will get daily direct connection to East.

(3) As of now train almost gets vacant at Ernakulam. This can be a good option for a train from Allp to TVC for local commuters

(4) Return timings at KCVL is very odd though

Yeah correct. Tata-Allp was more suitable because of its timings. It provided daily overnite connectivity to VSKP, also touched Chennai Central and CBE. The timings of Tata-ERS is very bad. Now it stops going to VSKP, Chennai Central and Coimbatore. I have heard that in future there is a possibility that it might get extended to Allp. SER needs to change its timings from Tatanagar. If it leaves at night it will be very helpful.

I think what the document says is since the plan is to extend DHN-Allp to KCVL hence Porbandar KCVL can be extended to TVC. Ultimately it will be the mech wing which will also need to decide if maintenance slots are available or not

No congestion issues at KCVL since only Secondary maintenance will be happening for this train. But return timings depart from KCVL will be 3am. I don't think it will be of much use for passengers....so most likely will run empty till Allp.

How is this going to spoil CBE connectivity ? The occupancy will remain as it is. Passengers bound for PGT will get down at CBE and take a bus and still reach faster as compared to going via POY. Similarly in return direction nobody will board train from PGT at 3am in the morning. There was an article today in papers which mentions that even PGT division is not sure if this extension will benefit. What I have heard is that SA division wanted to decongest CBE, hence wanted extension to PGT. Because of scheduled maintenance block, route via Walayar was not possible. MDU division didnt want to deploy resources just for one train and so probably they didnt want to terminate the train there. The result of all this is complete waste of resources. Will benefit POY to some extent which is the only good thing that I can see.

Agree
The most easiest thing to do is to rant and give lots of ideas in IRI. Some of them are good but the irony is that railway authorities dont decide anything based on what people write in IRI.
Congestion is a major issue in CBE. For trains like GHY-CBE and couple of others terminating at CBE proposals have been submitted by SA division to use the rakes to other locations as their turnaround time is high and stabling facilities are less. Unfortunately SA division probably didnt try and expand CBE which should have been done long time ago given the importance of CBE as a city. Had the DD been running with great occupancy I could have understood the concern

abt extension to PGT. The TT remains the same & I dont think it will make any difference to occupancy. While there was lot of media coverage today on the trial run, none of them had any clue on the timings and how inconvenient this will be.

The division was not decided by PGT division. It ended up as a result of SA division being carved. The then MoSR R Velu ( from TN) was the key person in this regard. Only the RB would know what was the basis of carving out this

Re# 6033374-42
In rail operations there are many factors at play including crew deployment, crew linkage & utilisation, availability of staff for maintenance, loco change, shunting & so on, whether the station has adequate facilities for ensuring staff has resting place and other things. Unfortunately its a fact that all these constraints are observed in smaller pass through stations. In this case I have heard that Palani was being explored, but since it is a pass through stn MDU division was unwilling to spare staff just for the maintenance of this one train if it was terminated there. For now terminating at PGTN seems more from an operational point of view.

It may be changing though. As per some sources, in the recently concluded TT committee meeting, from proposals submitted by SR, the ones that probably got approved are mostly from TN. Also heard that some trains terminating at CAPE will be terminated at NCJ leaving CAPE for more trains to be operated (example Pune-CAPE). CBE-RMM via POY is a strong possibility when the new Pamban bridge becomes operational. Lets hope for the best !!
