Stations:  Jogeshwari/JOS
It will accommodate 24-car trains on two sides where trains will terminate,
There is good news for Mumbaikars as the city will get a new Terminus. This will be at Jogeshwari which will be built at a cost of Rs 69 crore. Permissions came on May 12. It will accommodate 24-car trains on two sides where trains will terminate. This will come in addition to Bandra Terminus, Dadar, Mumbai Central Terminus, Kurla LTT and CSMT.
The proposed Jogeshwari Terminus on Western Railway will now become a reality as the Rail Ministry has

given its permission. A letter sent to Western Railway on May 12, a copy of which is with FPJ, states that sanction is hereby communicated to work of 'New Coaching Terminal at Jogeshwari'. Once ready in 2025 or so, this will become another rail terminus for people taking the long distance trains.
Sources in the railways said that this new Terminus will help passengers going to Western and Northern India. Central Railway terminuses cater to trains for southern India and the central and south-west regions. Mumbai Central and Bandra terminuses cater to north and western India, among other regions. The Jogeshwari Terminal will certainly make commute easier for people residing in western suburbs especially between Andheri to Virar.
As per plans, a 600 meter long and 12 meter wide island platform will be created with tracks on either side. An island platform allows passengers to alight and board trains on both sides. The platform can accomodate 24-car trains.
There will be a station building meant for rail staff and passengers having necessary amenities. This Terminus will handle 12 trains which will bring down burden from Mumbai Central and Bandra Terminuses. Initially the long-distance trains from Jogeshwari Terminal will run towards Gujarat and later ease travel to Konkan and southern India.
At present, there is a roofed island platform having rail next to it. It connects the main network towards Borivali. The platform is stacked with cement gunny bags and loading and unloading of freight, especially cement, happens here. There is also an active warehouse that witnesses movement of trucks and labourers. The proposed terminus is connected by foot over bridge to Ram Mandir station.
Meanwhile the Railway Board has also asked the WR authorities to study the possibility of creating a depot at Jogeshwari siding for the proposed Vande Bharat trainset depot. Mumbai Central too is in the proposed list for serving as a depot for Vande Bharat trains. Senior Rail officials said that Zonal Railways have been advised to examine these locations in detail and to plan for development and upgradation for maintenance infrastructure of Vande Bharat trains.

I completely agree, in my opinion, what they should've done was just expand and build up on the existing Vasai Road station as this station has the ability to provide service for both trains using the western and central railway.

Vasai Road is the best option to decongest the WR network. As on today, approximately 50% people board / alight at BORIVALI in case of Rajasthan, Delhi, Gujarat and UP Etc. Travelling by WR Trains.

India intends to operate S-400 missile system to defend against threats from Pak, China: Pentagon
PTI | May 18, 2022, 10:10 IST
WASHINGTON: By June 2022, India intends to deploy the S-400 missile defence system that it has received from Russia to defend itself against threat from Pakistan and China, a Pentagon spy master has told US lawmakers.
India started receiving the delivery of
...

S-400 missile defence system from Russia in December last year, Lt Gen Scott Berrier, Director, Defense Intelligence Agency told members of the Senate Armed Services Committee during a recent Congressional hearing.
As of October 2021, India's military was seeking to procure advanced surveillance systems to strengthen its land and sea borders and boost its offensive and defensive cyber capabilities.
"In December, India received its initial delivery of the Russian S-400 air defence system, and it intends to operate the system to defend against Pakistani and Chinese threats by June 2022,” Berrier said.
"India continued to develop its own hypersonic, ballistic, cruise, and air defence missile capabilities, conducting multiple tests in 2021. India has a growing number of satellites in orbit, and it is expanding its use of space assets, likely pursuing offensive space capabilities,” he said.
Berrier told lawmakers that New Delhi is pursuing an extensive military modernisation effort encompassing air, ground, naval, and strategic nuclear forces with an emphasis on domestic defence production.
India is taking steps to establish Integrated Theatre Commands that will improve its joint capability among its three military services.
Since 2019, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given priority to strengthen India's economy by expanding its domestic defence industry, and establishing a negative import list to curtail defence purchases from foreign suppliers.
"India's longstanding defence relationship with Russia remains strong, holding their first ‘2+2' format talks in December — a joint foreign and defence ministerial that India previously only held with the United States, Japan, and Australia.
"India has maintained a neutral stance on Russia's invasion of Ukraine and continues to call for peace,” Berrier told the lawmakers.
According to Berrier, throughout 2021, New Delhi continued to implement foreign policy aimed at demonstrating India's role as a leading power and net provider of security in the Indian Ocean region.
India seeks to promote prosperity and ensure stability in the Indo-Pacific region by seeking strategic partnerships to build influence through bilateral and multilateral mechanisms such as the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), he said.
"New Delhi seeks to deepen intelligence and operational cooperation on cybersecurity, protect critical information infrastructure, prevent adversary manipulation of public opinion, and to create standards and norms that protect and secure data governance,” he added.
Following the collapse of the Afghan government, New Delhi is increasingly concerned about potential attacks against India by terrorist groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed - empowered by a Taliban-controlled Afghanistan, he said.
The evacuation of Indian personnel from Afghanistan degraded its resources to monitor potential threats and cultivate influence over regional stability, he said.
Despite recommitting to the 2003 ceasefire, India remains postured to respond to perceived militant threats, and it has continued counterterrorism operations in Kashmir. Occasional skirmishes between Indian and Pakistani troops will continue, and a high-profile attack in India by Pakistan-based terrorists risks an Indian military response,” he said.
Berrier said that Chinese-Indian relations remain strained following the fatal clashes in summer 2020 between their respective forces along the Western sector of the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
During 2021, both sides held multiple rounds of high-level diplomatic and military talks that resulted in a mutual pullback of forces from several standoff points. However, both sides maintain close to 50,000 troops along with artillery, tanks, and multiple rocket launchers, and both are building infrastructure along the LAC, he said.

Russia has warned that it will have to take unspecified “military-technical” steps in response to Finland’s decision to join NATO.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said Thursday that Finland’s accession to NATO will “inflict serious damage on Russian-Finnish relations, as well as stability and security in Northern Europe.” It said in a statement that “Russia will be forced to take retaliatory steps of military-technical and other characteristics in order to counter the emerging threats to its national security.” The statement noted that while it’s up to Finland to decide on ways to ensure

its security, “Helsinki must be aware of its responsibility and the consequences of such a move.” The ministry charged that Finland’s move also violated past agreements with Russia.

“History will determine why Finland needed to turn its territory into a bulwark of military face-off with Russia while losing independence in making its own decisions,” it added.

The ministry’s statement follows Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov’s comment earlier Thursday that Finland’s decision wouldn’t help stability and security in Europe. Peskov said that Russia’ response will depend on NATO’s moves to expand its infrastructure closer to the Russian borders.

Zelenskyy praises Finland's move to join NATO
Ukraine's president Volodymyr Zelenskyy has praised Finland for its "readiness to apply for NATO membership". Ukraine's President held a telephonic call with Finland's president Sauli Niinisto during which the two counterparts discussed about "Ukraine's European integration". The Finnish leader "reiterated Finland's firm support for Ukraine". As an adherence to Russia's demands, Zelenskyy had declared in the month of March that his country would not become a NATO member.
