more... transportation, is also on hold. A railway line from Sardarnagar to Hetimpur (Kushinagar) was laid during the British era to transport sugarcane to the Sardarnagar sugar mill. This line remained operational until 1990 but became unusable after the mill closed and passenger trains stopped running on it. In 2012, a plan was formulated to extend this line from Hetimpur to Padrauna via Kushinagar, connecting it to the Kaptaanganj-Thawe railway line. The objective was to provide tourists with direct access to Kushinagar, the site of Buddha's Mahaparinirvana, from Gorakhpur. This was expected to boost tourism between Gorakhpur and Kushinagar. The proposed 65 kilometer line comprised of approximately 40 kilometers of existing track. Only about 25 kilometers of new track needed to be laid, from Hetimpur to Padrauna via Kushinagar.
