They should have released a circular saying they are cancelling all trains in this route for 6 weeks. Can't they regulate these trains?!

With the pace of AC standardization, they should introduce 50 Daily Amrit Bharat. Weekly won't do anything in terms of election appeasement.

Pawan express is the best example of how Indian railways has failed in fulfilling the passenger needs. I travelled briefly last week from Manmad jn to Thane and entered SL class to see the horrible picture. In the Sleeper Coach in every berth, two people are sleeping. I am not joking. I tried to fight initially that I booked the SL ticket with the double occupant. I realised that the train runs like this from Bihar to Mumbai in all the Sleeper class coaches with two people sleeping and some times, one more person sitting. This is the state of affairs why Indian Railways failed to cater to the needs of common traveller. Indian Railways on an average denies ticket to at least 200,000 passengers on daily basis and it goes upto 500,000 people their choice to travel despite having the rolling stock, and the railway lines. It is apathy...

of Indian Railways not accountable after they stopped the Railway Budget. How do we measure Railway performance. Financially operating ratio, how much they spend to earn 100 rupees, around 98 now. How much Indian government spend on Railways year on year, now 2.5 lakhs crores. How many passengers the Indian Railways denies travel - around 200 crore people and out of which 150 crore people travel like cattle including Mumbai local suburban trains, without seats for last 50 years. How long will Railways fail us and how long politicians give bullshit reasons to Indian population?

Bihar has unemployment rate of 15% and that's horrible considering it's high population, UP has 5% unemployment which is also on the higher side as that would be about 4.8 million. But I wonder how much they get paid or about the quality of jobs. These are the people doing these journeys. Instead of just discarding the ICF coaches, I wish the railways would use those coaches to run some specials at lower speeds to meet the demand.

Well, that is already happening with introduction of more AC coaches in LHB converted trains, making it unaffordable for lower middle class and low income folk to travel with ease. Railways is using LHB conversion as an excuse to add more AC coaches. Also, all this risk is still the same for trains that are still running with ICF coaches as well. Lower speeds mean more safety and operational costs. At least IR will be transporting people to their destinations.

if they can provide this service at least with current sleeper charges, that will be huge IMO. They will definitely have reservation for this.

Yes there is demand especially between Mumbai and UP/Bihar and even southern states. You can also call it forced to pay more. So there's no need to be concerned about unreserved passengers coming into reserved coaches, crowd in unreserved coaches at all?! There's a huge section of the population that can't afford to travel in AC coaches and it's unfortunate many don't seem to care at all about them. Also, news flash, A majority of the passenger trains still run with ICF coaches. There have been more incidents with SF an express services as compared to slower passenger trains because of operational speeds.

SECR prioritized freight trains above passenger trains for a long time. You think that would improve once IR is prioritized? US and Canada passenger rail services, is run by govt services, because private railway companies and oil / gas corporations wouldn't run any were actively getting rid of the railway network and rail lines. Europe , Japan have good regulations and competition guidelines and that's how their railways are world renown. I've seen zero effort in this aspect.

Let private stakeholders run some private services on the rail network. Since the premium services cater to the upper class anyway, they can be handed over to make more profits. Many of them premium trains make horrible losses. Many Shatabdi's, Rajdhani's and Duronto's, Other premium trains make this list, due to maintenance costs. It's better for government to have control over rail network.

Ok then you also agree IR and current govt railway ministry doesn't care about poor people, only rich people like you quoted "Adanios". Glad we're on the same page. Actually if govt mandated transit oriented development, even private stakeholders will have to develop only around it. That's what the US didn't do. That's what most of Europe, Japan did do.

And you think the private sector will do so?? Really? Better for IR to remain in govt control. They can allow private stakeholders to run trains. As far as combatting rush goes, which is the topic at hand, it is better to run ICF trains as specials to clear rush with slower schedules. It is better to have some service than to deny all services to the poor folk in our country in the name of increasing AC coaches and LHB conversion.

So this was the concern all this time? Ultra Rich are travelling in general coaches? The matter at hand is providing more low fare services. Poor folk can afford only low fares not higher fares, rich can afford low and high fares. It's general knowledge how you can assess a person's income , maybe checking taxes, property etc. Atleast a govt can verify these things.

What Jalebi's? I'm trying to make some sense of what you are saying. The initial topic was about crowd in SL coaches and the folks coming in from UP/Bihar in search of jobs even low paying to Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and so on. You've quoted Visakha Exp and are saying all SL passengers shifted to AC. This train is dedicated to serving VSKP and Northern Andhra mostly and then BBS. It is a completely different demographic from the crowd travelling in SL/GEN coaches. Even then IR is denying the poor the chance to travel. It's not like folks travelling to and from AP are all ones who can afford AC travel. Govt is pushing this on them. I suggested to run ICF rake specials and you say safety. So they don't deserve any service I guess?
