The train can be ran as KSR-Vasco panchaganga express. It really need to be extended. Needless to say it would be a connectivity not just for Bangalore people but also for chennai people if we could catch this by taking intercity or something. Vasco is also in SWR so this train could be extended easily

Extension would deprive seats to Coastal KA Uttara Kannada & Udupi districts people. Coastal people have long fought to get train connection to its State Capital, Bengaluru.

Train is just 14 coaches due to technical limitations of Ghat crossing. So adding coaches is also ruled out & if done, they would need to change timetable which would result in late arrival at Blore. & also that would necessiate changing timings of other trains which get crossed in Ghats like 16511/12 Kannur Exp & 16585/86 Murudeshwar Exp. very Good occupancy. So don't you think Extension might snatch seats from Udupi & Uttara Kannada Dist people ?

Vasco has daily connection to Blore via Hubli. If another connection between Vasco- Bengaluru is needed then they can plan extension of 16585/86 Murudeshwar Exp. & some sort of rake sharing with 17309/10 Vasco-Yesvantpur Exp if possible. Connecting to Chennai via Connection train can also be thought of.

Also SWR need to re-introduce that 17311/12 Vasco-Chennai weekly which is presently running only till Hubballi.

That Daily 17309/10 Vasco-Yesvantpur Exp. has odd arrival & Dep at Yesvantpur end. SWR should start caring for their own trains & provide better timings, so it can arrive bit earlier at Yesvantpur say atleast 8~8:40am & dep from Yesvantpur postponement by 2 hours, that can do lot of wanders.

I am from Kumta, KA & regular observe this train. Demand is so much. Train almost gets fool at Kumta/Honnavar itself, remember there are still big towns like Udupi, Byndoor, Bhatkal, Kundapur, Murudeshwar, Surathkal ahead.

As per Railway rules, Originating station gets General Quota, they can't do away with it & give other quotas. The quotas you mentioned are applicable from Intermediate stations.

Also there is cold war issue of revenue sharing between Zones. Train originating stations get higher revenue, followed by terminating zone. Intermediate/Passing zones get less.
When introduced in hurry burry, Train was running as UR Special between Karwar - Vasco - Karwar, as at that time there were new platforms at Madgaon works yet to complete. KR also gets some kind of revenue for Maintaining/Cleaning/Watering/Fuelling & other maintenance. If in any case it gets extended to Vasco, KR would lose that terminating revenue + other. So KR too reluctant to send to VSG,SWR.
Same holds true for Mangalore-Madgaon Passenger, Mangalore-Madgaon VB or the erstwhile Mangalore-Madgaon Intercity. They never extend it even if they is no single train from Vasco towards Mangalore or South.

On the other end, VSG, UBL Div, SWR is too reluctant to accept as they have loads of Freight running from or For Murmagao Harbour & have their all lines always blocked.

Fact - 15-20 years back, When Madgaon had just 3 platforms they would find it difficult to handle trains at Afternoon. As Mangalore passenger, Janshatabdi would have arrived similar time & had their reversals. So KR just extended Mangalore passenger to Verna, a small wayside station on their own Jurisdiction instead of popular Vasco town.

The Already running UR Special between Karwar - Madgaon - Karwar has cause lot of damage to 16595/96 & affected permanent cancellation of another train too. Many do book online & travel till Karwar & changeover at Karwar. GS only 2 coaches, that gets full at Karwar +2 stations.

Like in every zones, there are some sections that are Neglected, Here too.

sending it to Madgaon for watering/cleaning/fueling, Stabling., But they can't built One Stabling line at Karwar. Karwar had Watering facility, but that is abandoned long ago. One Stabling or platform line is need of hour at Karwar, as also Daily Night MEMU is stabled + 3 days a week 16515/16 Intercity + Once/twice a month Freight unloading.

On similar distance from Madgaon towards North, at Sawantwadi Road, 11003/04 Tutari Exp terminates, they constructed stabling line long ago for that & few years back constructed full fledged platform + watering facility + Another loop line too. Such is state of politics.

Sawantwadi Road is pen ultimate station of MH towards Goa, similar like Karwar of KA, towards Goa.

Sir, Answer for 16515/16 Query is exactly in your first para itself - Bypass. Anything entering Mangalore Central or Mangalore Jn. would mean lots of time consumption due to Huge yards + Zonal Changeover point from SWR to SR & SR to KR & other formalities like Reversal/Attachment/Detachment, Checks, switch lines & turnouts speed etc. Udupi & Specially Uttara Kannada People least prefer because of Huge runtime & late arrival at enroute stations in KR due to least priority. Few from Udupi District do get down at Bantawala/Kabakaputtur & switchover to Buses to reach Home earlier then train.

16515/16 would run via Padil Bypass, would definitely attract many takers from Coastal Districts of Udupi & Uttara Kannada. But that would also mean Mangalore people would lose Day Bangalore connection.

For 16515 towards Karwar, There are 3 trains ahead of it. 12134, 12620 & 10108 MEMU.

For 16516 towards Mangalore direction, 10107 MEMU stays exactly like 1or 2 block stations ahead.

If bypassed, 16515/16 Day train can be proposed to extended upto Madgaon or even Vasco if SWR agrees, No harm in that. This would also mean Vasco, Madgaon to get daily Intercity Day connectivity to Blore, South KR & Udupi, Mookambika, Subramanya, Dharmastala, Sravanbelagola & other Religious & tourist places.

Vande Bharat introduction between Bangalore & Mangalore is thought off, once Ghat section gets Electrified. They can think of bypassing 16515/16, taking opinion from All Rail Associations from Region into consideration.

There is a Abandoned 'Farangipete' Halt station within SWR limits nearby Padil bypass cabin/Mangalore Jn. & has Good Highway connectivity, just 50~100 mts from Tracks. SWR can develop it as Block station with All Good amenities, So that Mangalore people can still hop on/off all trains bypassing Mangalore area if any in future.

Your opinion about Talguppa holds good. Almost Decade back, when Panchganga was non-existent & 16523/24 were running, Myself commuting to Blore from Kumta use to go to Talguppa & take 16228 to reach Blore faster & vice~versa. Even People from Byndoor/Kundapur taluks would do same.

Regarding connecting train to 16511, My opinion would be better to swap slots of 16511 with 16585, such that 16585 starts early from Blore take 16511 slot from Hassan, arrive early at Mlore & leave early towards Murudeshwar. That would also mean early arrival at Murudeshwar &

Few Coastal rail users association also suggesting Rlys to find if it is technical feasible to carry out RSA with 17309/10 Vasco Exp. Incoming Vasco Exp from Yesvantpur can leave as Vasco - SMVT Exp via Karwar & SMVT-Vasco would leave as Vasco-Yesvantpur same Night. PM can be taken either at Vasco or SMVT, making pitline free at another end.
