Lets keep jio out of discussion as it is has its own business policy but consider broad plans they are not cheap given so many ppl are using it. Apart from that the biggest loss of railways is the loss in freight business as it is the sole source of massive revenue.

Here also higher price is responsible. To compensate the loss from passenger segment, previous rail minister increased the freight rates that much that it compelled the traders to look for the cheaper alternative and improvement in the condition of Roads also added up to it as Road proved itself to be better and cheaper alternative to Railways for freight transport. railways is getting it's major source of freight from govt. companies only and if they pull out then railways would be bankrupt.
