Trains from Hubballi to Varanasi, Mysuru to be introduced
Minister of State for Railways Manoj Sinha has promised to consider favourably a demand for introducing a train between Hubballi and Mangaluru to provide connectivity between the coastal and interior regions of Karnataka.
Replying to a demand by Pralhad Joshi, MP, at a ceremony to release a stamp brought out by the India Post to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of the saint Hanagal Kumaraswamy here on Friday, Mr. Manoj Sinha said that he would try his best to consider this demand and see...
more... that a train was run between these two cities of the State.
Saying that this demand had been made by people of this region as well as that of the coastal belt, Mr. Joshi said that Hubballi was already connected with Mysuru and Bengaluru by train and the department of Railways has also fulfilled the demand for introducing new trains to Varanasi and Mysuru.
He has also urged the Minister to consider another demand for introducing the train between Hubballi and Mangaluru.
Later, Mr. Joshi told The Hindu that he had briefed the Minister regarding the need for running a train between Hubballi and Mangaluru via Arsikere junction.
Earlier, a train was running between Mangaluru and Miraj via Hubballi and it was stopped during the gauge conversion works. The Minister has been urged to reintroduce this train.
Later, this train could be diverted via Ankola once the works of laying a railway track between Hubballi and Ankola was completed.
Mr. Joshi also announced on this occasion that the Ministry of Railways has fulfilled the demand for providing a train between Hubballi and Varanasi (Kashi) and a day train between Hubballi and Mysuru. Both of these trains would be flagged off at a function to be held here on May 23, he said.
