So this dude Gani Khan Chaudhury, when he was the Railway Minister, he was like, "We need a whole new division up in here!" So he brought in the Malda Division to meet the needs of Malda, Sahibganj, Munger, Bhagalpur. 2. Ain't nobody using Old Malda Jn much 'cause both stations are on the same damn route. Malda court's line is close to the Bangladesh border, so Malda Town is the primary station since it's closer to the city itself. 3. Can't do it cuz they gotta build a new bridge over the Mahananda River and it's gotta run parallel to NH 12. So for the 3rd and 4th lines, they gonna build it near the Malda Bypass of NH12 to ease up the traffic on the current main line. MLDT-EKI 3rd line, that's doable. 4. Gani Khan Chowdhury didn't want a big terminal station like Howrah 'cause then trains would have to go through Katihar and Barauni for everywhere which would take more time. So he came up with the idea of a new route from Kolkata to Siliguri, through Malda by building a bridge over the Ganga River. With the Farakka Barrage in place, the whole North Bengal got connected to Kolkata and South India, solving a major connectivity problem. If they make a terminal station in Malda, only the nearby area of South Dinajpur and the upper part of Murshidabad would benefit 'cause big cities like Baharampur, Balurghat, Raiganj are all over 100 km away from Malda. So folks from these places would prefer going to Kolkata since the connectivity to Kolkata is solid in all cities and villages of West Bengal.
