All FIAT bogies and wheels were designed to operate at 160kmph. It has been the same from the first LHB coaches till now.

Air springs affect passenger ride quality, not the train's MPS (unless the springs are damaged or the excessive vibrations damage the tracks). The coil springs used in most LHB coaches are good enough for 130kmph travel. All Rajdhanis, Shatabdis and most normal SF/M/E trains running at 130kmph had rakes with coil springs only.

10 years is not old for railway coaches or locomotives. It is considered fairly new or less than mid-life.

Simply having old bogies doesn't reduce MPS. There are a lot of 130-fit trains running with LHB coaches that are 10-12 years old and they have no issues. Poor maintenance can definitely affect the MPS, but then RB and all the passing zones will not allow such rakes in regular operations as they will not be able to run at the booked speed and cause delays on intermediate routes. AP may be having bad maintenance for the passenger facilities (A/C, pantry, fans, lights, internal furnishings etc) but there are no problems with the coaches' ride qualities, or else there would've been repercussions.

Wheel slips are mostly unrelated to maintenance or speed capabilities. Wheel slip is due to insufficient grip on the tracks and happens due to poor track conditions or wet tracks etc. It has got nothing to do with maintenance or condition of the rake.

As for spring malfunctions - all coaches will have spring failures now and then. They are fixed during maintenance and made to run again. This is not unique to BBS Raj or AP and happens to all trains. AP didn't get a broken rake - it might have

got coaches with poor internal maintenance (cleanliness, passenger facilities etc), but the run-worthiness of the coaches would always be maintained.

As for BBS Raj getting a new rake - it is a Rajdhani and Raj trains always get the first priority whenever any upgrades are required. So, they would've given new rakes to Raj and transferred the older rakes to AP. Again, this doesn't mean that the rakes were bad or damaged.

Re# 4911721-24
I've attached timetables from 1927; a year after Toofan was introduced. These are scans of the EIR 1927 Timetable.

Note that at this time, it was not called Toofan. It was just the 7/8 Howrah - Delhi Express ( via Agra Cantonment). 'Toofan' was an unofficial name used by the public as the train was very fast. It became an official name a few years later.
...

As the timetable is spread over multiple pages, I just uploaded the abstract ones (which does not show the train number) and a timetable of the Howrah - Burdwan Chord section so that people can correlate between the two and identify the train.

The first scan is that of the Howrah-Burdwan section. Note the No. 7 Howrah Delhi express via Agra (Toofan) and the No. 1 Punjab mail (present day Kalka mail).

In 1927, Toofan took 27 hours 39 minutes for the Howrah - Delhi run (via Grand Chord and Agra) with 21 halts and an average speed of 53 kmph.

At the same time, the Punjab mail (present day Kalka mail) took 26 hours 53 minutes (via Patna and Aligarh) with an average speed of 54 kmph.

The coaches have higher number of passengers than the regular 3A coaches, allowing for lower operating cost. Hence they are called 'Economy coaches'.

This is just like the Garibrath vs regular 3AC. Usually more seats are put in to have lesser ticket prices, but still make the same or more revenue. That's why these are termed 'Economy coaches'.

Not always. The short-period maintenance schedules do not require complete disassembly of the loco unless some major damage is detected. The long-period maintenance schedules do require a more extensive tear-down of the locomotive.

Kopargaon hardly sees 30 trains a day in both directions (Average of 31 trains per day). That is rather less traffic. That's why there is no urgency from the railways' side for doubling.
