Some unknown facts for the Lumding –Silchar BG Railway Project
Here we are sharing some strange and interesting facts of Lumding –Silchar BG Railway project.
This Project is just like a Guinise book of world records:
This project was inaugurated in the year 1996 by the honorable Prime Minister of India Shri H D Deve Gowda. When H D Deve Gowda inaugurated this project

he never might have thought that project will take a long 19 years for the completion. In between many Government came in centre with famous faces as Railway Minister of India like Laloo Prasad Yadav, Mamata Banerjee , Dinesh Trivedi, Nitish Kumar, Pawan Singh Bansal , Mukul Ray etc but no one took this project as important one and also took any good positive initiative for its completion. Even after the declaration of National project by UPA Government in 2004.
Failures of the Local elected leaders from Barak Valley region and their dedication towards this dream project:
Two leaders who always wanted to show that, they are very much dedicated and working for this dream project but, in reality they have not done anything till date for this project which is also known to all. Now there is no such high public demand political issue except the Mahasadak (East-West road corridor project) to contest the elections. Can you guess the names! Hope obviously you can guess them as one is the great “Santosh Mohan Dev” and other is “Kabindra Purkayastha”. Everyone will agree with this point of view. In 2004 Santosh Mohan Dev said he will travel by BG train from Lumding to Silchar and file his nomination for next general Election for Silchar Parliament Constituency. But now it seems their political issues gone. In 2009 Mr Santosh Mahon Dev lost in election for Silchar Parliament Constituency.
The two Big “M” factors: The “Manik Sarkar” Chief Minister of Tripura and the Prime Minister of India “Modi” are the game changer for this dream project. Before the last general election of 2014 though, this issue was not a major and only agenda for election campaigning but, Prime Minister Modi after getting his power took a great initiate for the completion of this Lumding – Silchar project which is all time remained a big issue for the Barak valley and rest of the region. On the other hand the great effort of Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar for this peoples demand project. It is a fact that Tripura’s connectivity and economy are greatly depends on this project as the state is geographically unfortunate because of its location. Thus Manik Sarkar always tried with his best effort for rapid development for this project.
Insurgency disturbance can be reduced by boasting the tourism business in the region which can change the socio economic scenario in the region:
As earlier many technical and railway staffs were faced many problems because of the insurgency in this region and sacrificed their lives too. Now people of this region understood this rail connectivity will change their economy and life stander. Dima Hasao district of Assam is also known as “Switzerland of East” a beautiful paradise hilly land with wonderful scenic beauty. Jatinga valley is famous for the phenomenon of birds "committing suicide” which is an interesting matter for researchers and scientists around the globe. The valley is also famous for Jatinga River and unique quality of oranges
Now a new connectivity bond between Barak and Brahmaputra valley of Assam:
Barak and Brahmaputra valley both are very important wings of state Assam and having a great role for the overall socio-economic development of state Assam. Without support of the Brahmaputra valley Barak never can develop same as without support of Barak valley Brahmaputra valley can’t grow.
