Lesser Known Facts about Andheri Which You Would Love To Know
Andheri is one of the oldest Places in Mumbai and is among the busiest railway station of Mumbai. It carries more than 9 lacs passengers daily. Here are some facts about Andheri

Sher-e-Punjab Housing Society in Andheri is the single largest co-operative residential housing society in Mumbai with 1,251 members.

2 The Andheri railway station is the among the busiest railway stations in the country and also on the Western Line of the Mumbai Suburban Railway and the expansion of the metro in the Versova-Anderi-Ghatkopar corridor is part of the government’s master transportation plan.


3 Till the end of 19th century, most of Andheri had Parsi Zoroastrian residents, whose villages are still located in Chakala, Pump house, Marol, Saki Naka etc.
4 The international terminal of the city’s Chatrapati Shivaji International Airport is located near Sahar village in Andheri East. There are two separate terminals operating the domestic and international operations.
5 The British has built the railways connecting Mumbai and Thane in 1853 itself, However, Andheri was not a part of it. In 1928, the Indian Railways, which was managed by the British, Built Andheri Station.
6 Andheri started establishing as the only place for many famous film studios like Nataraj Studio, M&T Studio, Prakash Studio, Modern Studio and Mohan Studio between 1935 to 1980.

7 In 1996, when Michael Jackson performed in the Andheri Sports Complex during the History World Tour, it started to emerge as a place meant for both entertainment and sports programs.
8 In early 21st century, Andheri started getting more and more developed with the coming of standard residential places like Amrit Nahar Shakti and Raheja Vihar in Chandivali.

9 In 1988, Andheri Sports Complex was established for schools that didn’t have infrastructure for sports meets. It was mainly used for high level sports such as squash, tennis, boxing and karate.
10 In the year 1934 Britishers decided to open an airport in Santacruz and therefore this Andheri railway line was shut. In 1944 a new railway line built and again andheri railway station started to function.
