50 years back on this day a History was created. On 1st March 1969 102 Down New Delhi Howrah Fully AC Superfast Bi-Weekly Rajdhani via Grand Chord departed New Delhi at 17:30 hours and arrived Howrah the next day at 10:50 hours. The return journey 101 Rajdhani commenced its journey on 3rd March 1969 from Howrah. Departed Howrah at 17:00 hours and reached New Delhi at 10:20 hours the next day. S.O Levi was the guard of 101 and Mr Torcher was the LP. Clocked at 115 KMPH and MPS was 120 KMPH then. The first Coach Composition was as follows:-Brake/Luggage/Generator, AC I, AC Pantry cum Lounge, AC Chair, AC Chair, AC Chair, AC Chair, Brake/Luggage/Generator. Loco was WDM 4. Rake was of NR. Coaches came in train number became 12301/12302. Now MPS is 130 KMPH and have a prestigious Coach Composition which consists of EOG/B1/B2/B3/B4/B5/B6/B7/B8/B9/B10/PC/H1/H2/A1/A2/A3/A4/A5/EOG. It is one of the two Rajdhanis, RJPB being the other, who sometimes run with 3 AC First Coaches. Loco now is WAP 7. It got WAP 5 as well. From Bi-Weekly service to 6 days a week now. On 1 day Howrah Rajdhani runs via Main Line (via PNBE). Interestingly this year on 50th Birthday Howrah Rajdhani from NDLS on 1st March 2019 and from HWH on 3rd March 2019 have 12306/5 via PNBE services respectively. Hope to see some more changes on it Diamond Jubilee i.e on 1st and 3rd March 2029. Bless our First Rajdhani, The Howrah Rajdhani, so that it continues to serve us for many more years.
