grant trunk express 1st slr coach used for rms only and not for general person. you can see it locked for general public and is used for rms.

I think the market share of metros/urban/semiurban areas have tilted towards couriers. EMS speedpost is also using Air services. You are right it maybe needed for rural areas but IMO, the market share of mail carried by RMS has reduced substantially. These days trains are carrying on board couriers who carry mail packets

ya thats also my point...there has to be a dedicated Superfast Train b/w Chennai & Delhi for transporting the Postal Parcels..& GT is fast enough to solve the purpose.

yes even 2 months ago when I was doing rail fanning at Chennai Central,I saw piles of courier materials lying the platform No 5 ready to be loaded into 12657..The Courier company name as read from the baggages were "First Flight"..They've named their courier agency as First Flight & sending the consignments by an Overnight Train LOL :-)

yes. there has been an instances of postal department using couriers for bulk mail in emergency situation in the past going by old newspapers reports
