1. Brother, you have no idea about Varanasi. After Chennai Central, I consider Varanasi to be the greatest casualty of train extension politics. The list of trains that were originally of Varanasi and now has been extended to hither tither and everywhere can literally fill up a full page. Varanasi is currently the seat of the present PM and has been getting some new trains of late, but mark my words, as soon as the leadership change will occur, a majority of those trains will get extended.
2. Patna itself has been the victim of having it's trains getting extended, abeit to a much lower degree than Varanasi. Secondly Malda cannot be compared to Patna or Varanasi due to sheer difference...
more... in population.
3. Even though the train has been extended to Balurghat, Malda still will retain a GNWL in ticketing quota. It will still retain a large chunk of the ticketing bulk that it presently enjoys.
4. Balurghat isn't a nobody in itself, it is the district HQ of the Dakhin Dinajpur District and an important border town. And most importantly Balurghat isn't lying in a separate country. Infact it is a neighbouring district to Malda. I am really bothered by your hostile sentiment towards a fellow neighbour district in your own state.
5. The train isn't getting diverted but extended. My hometown is Dhanbad. 12273 was a great train that used to have an average speed of around 82 kmph when it ran via Dhanbad. It was a great train for the middle class people having sleeper as well as AC accomodations. It was diverted via Jasidih. Not only Dhanbad lost a great train but even passengers from Howrah suffered greatly as it takes a great deal longer via the longer and slower main line. Trust me, I know the pain of seeing a great train been diverted. And Dhanbad is a way more populous city compared to Maldah. Forget Dhanbad, do you not realize that Asansol and Durgapur, both larger cities than Maldah don't have dedicated trains to Delhi and are solely dependent on trains from Kolkata. They have to compete with Kolkata for getting confirmed tickets and you can't compete with Balurghat brother ! And Asansol is getting the axe on several fonts being alloted with RLWL quota on a lot of trains from Kolkata.
6. Look at the bright side, if railway facilities are being developed at Balurghat, you will also be beneficiaries in the near future. Any new trains from Balughat will mostly likely always go via Maldah.
7. Rather crying over spilled milk, you should focus on getting a new faster train as a compensation from Malda. With all due respect Farakka is a glorified crawler, let it go, ask for a better train instead...
