MANGALORE: Palakkad division of Southern Railway is undertaking a safety drive for 10 days from Monday up to June 20 following incidents of rail passengers falling from train through open emergency windows.To curb such incidents, Piyush Agarwal, divisional railway manager, Palakkad had a discussion with his senior officers and ordered to conduct a safety drive for 10 days as part of passenger safety, S James, division PRO said. During the drive, ticket checking officials and supervisors of the division will conduct checks with help of railway protection force personnel to find out if emergency windows in passenger coaches are properly closed. If not, they will advice and counsel passengers to close that window and explain seriousness of keeping emergency windows open. This drive will be conducted in all passenger and express train running in the division.
