metalmint~ 55 blog postsNow running with brand new LHB rakes with modern amenities. The standout thing was the punctuality. Bang on time on most stations. Cleanliness and food is good. The only sad part is that most beatiful part of the journey through konkan starts after sunset. Other than that, good for railfanning.

metalmint~ 55 blog postsRake is very old but clean. OBHS is present. Runs from PF7/8 of NZM and is mostly punctual. Food is available but sporadic. The quality of the tea was pathetic. Wahrooms are decent.Overall a decent train to reach pune in the morning.

I presume that there will be a large number of passengers for Mysore, Mandya etc as this is the only direct train and there are atleast 5 more trains between MAQ and SBC (16512 etc). So why schedule it to reach mysore at 3:30 AM. Surely the departure from MAQ can be delayed by a few hours so that people destined for the MYS-SBC section can reach their destination at a more comfortable time. Just my 2 cents.
This train has loads of slack time in it. Reaches Hassan, MAJN and MAQ well before the scheduled time. 9 out of 10 times, this train reaches MAQ at 3 am which is an hour before the scheduled arrival.
There are times when this train has departed YPR 30-45 mins late and yet has reached MAQ at 3 am!

You are correct about the slack time, but the time table has been modified by IR (yet again) and so reaches MAQ at a comfortable time between 8-9 AM.
Unless there is a major festival and has a slew of holidays including weekends, don't bother booking in this train in advance. (including Sundays). Book in current reservation, and you get to pick and choose your berths and coaches and also save 10%. The tip is applicable for all classes.
This tip is still relevant as since 16511 is much more preferred being a daily train and also much faster. However this is now the only train from Mysore to Mangalore, So if you are booking from places like Mandya or Channapatna to go to Mangalore, you have no other option.
