In about one year from now, I will celebrate 50 years of my first ever long distance train journey. I was three years old at the time, and traveling by First Class in Bombay Mail from Raipur to Bombay VT. I still remember the green and yellow livery (with additional yellow lines), and loco changes in Durg (from electric to diesel), another in Nagpur, then in Bhusaval, and yet another in Igatpuri (DC traction, also prepared for the ghats). A visit to Dining Car became one of my favorite things to do in this train as I traveled through the years and the fantastic rumali roti they served back then.

of nostalgia, I was comparing the current time table to the time table in 1975, and was shocked to discover that the 2 Up (1 down) Mail was only 35 minutes slower almost 50 years ago and now it runs with max speed of 130.

On top of it, the Mail (until a few years ago), was a benchmark of being punctual, always running on time. Not the case for last 2-3 years now. I miss those days, but the Mail remains my all time love, as it literally got me to enjoy trains and made me a fan. Just had to share.

It makes zero sense. Better to ask for a new train than to divert a long running, extremely popular train.

Today khajuraho VB covered NZM to VGLJ in 4 hours, 2 minutes. Faster than Gatimaan and Bhopal VB.

I took VB from Agra to RKMP on March 21 (wanted Shatabdi but it was wait listed in executive class). The VB was late by 3 hours and had to run behind Mumbai Rajdhani all the way. So, 6 hour journey turned to 9 hours and the problem was technical.

It is possible that VB rake limits the option to an alternative loco unlike regular LHB rake. I was also VERY disappointed with dirty lavatories in both, E1 and E2. I would have assumed it to be clean at its first stop

(and relatively empty train) but apparently, it was never cleaned at its starting point either. Later, my cousin in Bhopal told me that they do not take VB for that reason... it is not maintained as well as Shatabdi.

Traveled by this train on March 20 (NZM to AGC). E1 and E2 were practically empty.

Two days later, traveled to from Agra to Bhopal... Shatabdi (my preferred choice) had WL1 in Executive class, but easily available in the VB and it was 30-40% occupied (and reached RKMP 3-hours late).

I could not get tickets on BPL Shatabdi (March 20) in Executive Class to Agra, so booked this VB (E1 and E2 had plenty of seats open). Similar story when I took RKMP VB from Agra... BPL Shatabdi had wait list (exec class) and VB was 30-40% occupied in E1/E2.

Indore Nagpur Vande Bharat and Nagpur Bilaspur Vande Bharat should have RSA with each other and both trains should have a lay-over of 45 minutes at Nagpur. This will allow VB-VB connections from BSP/R/INDB to BPL/UJN/INDB.

Both rakes can be allotted to SECR, PM at Bilaspur and SM at Indore

This has two issues:
1- requires speeding up of IND-NGP segment
2- VB trains, IMO, are already suffering with lack of maintenance (especially cleaning part). Extending the run of a rake will likely make it worse.

I

took two VB trains last month and neither were clean/maintained as they should be, and this was in executive class in both.

Had the same issue with Tejas Express (I had high hopes on that one) from Mumbai to Madgaon but lavatory started dirty from Mumbai and was cleaned in Ratnagiri which is the only station with 2 minute stoppage on that route.

Since then, I've been told Shatabdi rakes are maintained better than VB since their turn arounds tend to be tighter and they usually stop for 2 minutes at most stations (so in between clean up is an issue).
