History was made today when the first Broad gauge commercial freight train comprising 42 wagons loaded with food grains (rice) rolled into Bhairabi station of Mizoram. The train was received at 1.00 pm at Bhairabi station by Shri John Rotluangliana, Minister for Transport, Food, Civil supplies & consumer Affairs, Tourism, Govt. of Mizoram, Shri P.C.Zoram Sangliana, Local MLA and Chairman MIFCO, Shri T.T. Zothansanga, Parliamentary Secretary, Transport, Supply & Tourism, Dr. Franklin Latinkhuma, IAS, Special Secretary for Transport, Food, Civil supplies & Consumer Affairs, Govt. of Mizoram, Shri Hrangtawana, IRTS(Retd), alongwith Shri Niraj Kumar, DRM / Lumding / N.F.Railway, Shri A.Garud, Chief Admistrative Officer/1/Construction/ N.F.Railway and other senior State Govt. and Railway officials.

of the Lumding – Silchar along with other finger line projects. The present success was attributable to the hard work and dedication of Railway engineers whose effort saw completion of the work well within target. The formalities of inspection by Commissioner Railway Safety would also be completed soon and passenger trains would start plying thereafter. This line starts from the Katakhal station in Hailakandi district of Assam and runs about 82 KM in Assam before entering Mizoram. With today’s BG train to Bhairabi, Mizoram becomes the third North Eastern state after Tripura and Manipur to have got BG connectivity this financial year. This is a step forward towards N.F.Railways target of providing BG connectivity to all capitals of North Eastern States by the year 2020. Work is going on full swing for the new BG track from Bhairabi to Sairang near Aizawl which is scheduled to be completed by March - 2019.
