The dormitory at CSTM is very good for staying at cheap rate.
1.The sleeping area, bathrooms, lobby is clean.
2. The besdsheets and pillow covers are changed before the arrival of passenger. Though blankets remain same unless asked to change.
3. The staff is helpful but they don't allow to enter before 8 am or 8pm, whatever time the pax has booked from.
...
If arrived early, you can wait in the lobby which have comfortable sofa present there.
4. They ask the pax to exit atleast 5-10 min before time so that they can change the bedsheets and pillow covers.
5. The beds are arranged in double decker form with odd no. bed being lower bed and even no. bed being upper bed.
6. Charging point and reading lamp present at each bed.
7. Dormitory is situated at 3rd floor in main line area. 2 lifts are available.

Yes , Indeed it is so... and So calm.... but take care not to carry heavy luggage , thinking Lift will be useful, No , not all....
As it is on First Floor, Lift does not stop there....
Interior is good , with Ancient Lock ...

I had bookings online so no problem.... You just go to office and take register and sign yourself. as lady supervisor is late to arrive. and sweepers are in-charge who expect some tips even though you have booking.

Looks like you are saying about rooms. But I stayed in dormitory so no idea of room. On first floor only retiring rooms are there and dormitories are on 3rd floor, both gents and ladies. And yes you are right, it is calm and quiet. Doesn't look like you are anywhere near to railway station unless you get out of dormitory. And really does the lift does not stop at 1st floor? Different!!

One tip more, if you find a RR/Dormitory empty in any station at mumbai online just book it immediately if you want to stay at clean and affordable place in mumbai.
My experience:
I had a ticket in 12620 matsyagandha exp so , I was eligible for RR at LTT, but when I checked, it was full. So thought to give a try at Mumbai central (as I had stayed there earlier and found it good) . Bought a 2S ticket from mumbai central to Dahanu road in Gujarat express just

to book RR. Checked availability of RR , it was available but could not book, as ICICI was not accepting payment from my card. So thought to book next day but next day all rooms were booked. LTT, BCT finished. Now I took a chance to book RR at CST. Booked a ticket in Deccan exp from CST to LNL, and checked RR at CST.It was available and immediately I booked a bed in dormitory. Had this trick also failed, then I would have to shell out atleast 2000 for a hotel i.e. 10 times of what I spent in dormitory. So, if available book RR at mumbai immediately. CST and BCT retiring rooms are clean. Not sure about LTT.

Cloak room/ luggage room is at just left of PF 14
You have to scan your luggage and stick the Railway sticker on it
Scanner Machine is just in front of it approximate in walking distance (10 step).
with your luggage you have to show your reservation ticket, in which station should be mentioned as CST.
keep
...
lock your luggage (mandatory).
no carton boxes, parcel, hand bags are allowed.

Same goes for MAS, they check ticket or sms, but in NDLS there's no such scanning or sticker required, they don't even check your ticket lol, just fill in the form and lock your luggage and place it yourself on racks.

Yes, NDLS should also follow that protocol, but they don't, anyone can come from any train and can put anything in their luggage and fill in fake details in form. This thought really scares me sometimes and shows how careless they are in capital of India

New Delhi, the personnel who are manning the scanning are not at all doing their duties instead you can find them either dozing or reading newspapers, poor passengers have to lift their heavy luggage to put on scanner machine & again remove other side thinking it is scanned

If you miss this train at CSTM, take PNVL local.. All probabilities, this train may still be arriving at Panvel by the time local takes you there. If you miss there also, come back by return local train.
