RAILFANNING IS NOT THE BE ALL & END ALL OF AN RFs MISSION
Nothing can illustrate the truth of the above statement more than the following incident involving an IRI admin on a railfanning mission yesterday afternoon. And nothing can be a greater testimony to the need for a GOOD RAILFAN to be a better HUMAN BEING to begin with. I would prefer to describe the incident in his own words rather than mine as they speak volumes for his modesty.
" I was at the car wash and decided to click the

DD. As it approached, the loco was honking madly and I was not sure why. I just turned back to see and saw this old man on the track. I shouted to the gang men who were close by and they made the old man move away from the track. Well the gang men need to be appreciated. They acted in seconds. Missed the capture due to that ".
Thus was a death on the railway tracks averted and a precious human life saved in the process, even if it came at the cost of a failed click by an RF. But then well worth it because the DD can always be clicked ANOTHER DAY , whereas there may not have been ANOTHER DAY for the OLD MAN . The city of Bengaluru has witnessed quite a few road accidents where passers-by have been more busy in clicking pics of the accident spot and the victim instead of arranging for relief or hospitalisation etc. WHAT A STARK CONTRAST TO OUR VERY OWN IRI ADMIN.
PS. Much as I would have loved to, I am unable to reveal the identity of the ADMIN in question, as I did not receive his go-ahead to divulge his name. And that because he shuns publicity and does not want even others to blow his trumpet, leave alone blowing it himself. As a matter of fact he did not want me to share this incident with you all but I could not restrain myself. For after all, the sense of PRIDE in being associated with a person like him was too OVERWHELMING for me.

Ashok, thanks for sharing your experience. Instances like these serve to reaffirm my inherent faith in the essential goodness of human nature, however rare that may be. My hats off to you for your initiative and presence of mind.

Thanks a lot sir...i was standing at the other end of platform 3 (which is relatively short in length) and in the middle SM was standing. Even if i had tried running, probably it would not have been useful considering the distance. SM's response was quick and luckily being in the middle of the platform length, he could run and reach quickly.
Having said that, people should be equally careful if at all they are crossing tracks.

Happened in march 2013, late night.
Me and my parents went to LPI rly station to give send off to my relatives.
After their departure, we decided to sit there for few minutes and kill some leisure time by doing some train spotting.
Suddenly, we saw a middle aged person in drunk state, got down from platform 3 and sat on the track. At

same time mmts was entering the same platform.
We had very less time to react, as we were on last platform.
So, we started shouting to grab his attention. He remained unperturbed and due to darkness LP couldn't spot him on the track.
Luckily, in a gap of few meters, LP spotted the person and started honking continuously.
The guy in the last moment jumped out of the track.
He remained in puzzled state for few minutes and finally boarded the same mmts and sat near the door.

Sai Ram, sometimes even making a lot of noise can attract attention and achieve the desired result. Good to know that it all ended well . Thanks for sharing your experience.

Thank you sir.
Another incident I remember happened way back in January 2001.
I was very small and I was terrified with all happening in front of my eyes.
My dad took me to nlr station to help my mom to board pinakini exp.

started and picked up decent speed and suddenly we saw a man running with water bottle in hand and tried to board speeding train.
He managed to get hold of the bar but was not able to land his feet on the foot rest. Seeing a huge mistake happening, a person standing near the door pushed him with great force on to platform to ensure that he doesn't fall in the danger area.
Owing to the momentum, he stumbled onto platform safely.
My dad and few others helped him to get back his normal heart beat.
On enquiry, he said that he was going to ongole with his family.
After lot of talking and counselling, he boarded next train.
Even though it was a happy ending, I was terrified.

These days, every other day, we are getting requests from members to allow email login to their FB-based IRI account. 10 years ago, we had given the option for users to login through FaceBook - in retrospect, this was a mistake. These days, apparently, users are quitting FaceBook in droves because...
