KR is best managed zone in IR, inspite of being disavdvantaged one having:
(1) No major port/ mine/ huge industry to give it precious freight traffic
(2) Single line in a very tough terrain with instances of boulder falling in heavy monsoon rains.
(3) No major city on its route to give it huge originating passenger traffic.

more... Even then it is financially independent and earning revenue surpluses since many years
(5) Neglected from 1998-2014 as IR have not made investments in its capacity augmentation even after the track get saturated. Steps have been taken to improve KR in last 2 yrs
(6) Most innovative zone of IR-Many new things kile RORO, innovative methods to tame boulder falling, tunneling etc done for first time in IR by Konkan Railways
