A Murkongselek to Pasighat line project in Arunachal Pradesh is also underway, while the Sarupathar-Bame section is in the DPR stage. A Tawang connectivity project is currently in the survey stage. The Union Budget 2024-25 allocated a record amount to the North East for railway development. The Northeast Frontier Railway covers 8 Northeastern states and North Bengal, with a total budget allocation of over Rs 14,000 crore. The focus is on Amrit Bharat stations, new line projects, electrification, doubling, and safety works. The third Saraighat and second rail-cum-road bridge over the Brahmaputra River in Guwahati were sanctioned in February 2024. Hydrological studies are completed, and tenders are expected to be floated by August 2024.
