A railway action committee based in Nenmara is pushing for the construction of a 59 km long railway line connecting Kollankode and Thrissur. The project was first surveyed in the 1960s but was never implemented. The line would pass through 25 panchayats in Palakkad and Thrissur districts, benefiting 5 lakh people....

The railway line would provide easy access to pilgrimage centers like Velankanni, Palani, Guruvayur, and Sabarimala, benefitting pilgrims from across South India. It would also connect tourist destinations like Nelliyampathi, Peechi, and Ooty. Construction costs would be low as no bridges are required, and the line mainly passes through agricultural land, minimizing compensation requirements. The central government had allocated Rs. 321.2 crore in 2005-06 and Rs. 547.95 crore in 2012-13 for the project's initial stages, but it has not been implemented. The action committee, led by president M.A. Alauddin and secretary K. Girija Vallabhan, met with Union Ministers Suresh Gopi and George Kurian recently to submit a request for the project's revival.

Nenmara mein ek railway action committee Kollankode aur Thrissur ko connect karne wale 59 km lamba railway line ke liye zor laga raha hai. 5 lakh logon ko fayda hoga. Is railway line se Velankanni, Palani, Guruvayur, aur Sabarimala jaise tirth sthalon tak aasani se pahunchna mumkin hoga, jisse South India ke sabhi tirth yatriyon ko fayda hoga. Yeh Nelliyampathi, Peechi, aur Ooty jaise tourist destination ko bhi connect karega. Iski construction cost kam hai, kyunki isme koi bridge banane ki zaroorat nahi hai, aur yeh line mainly agricultural land se hoke gujarta hai, jisse compensation ki zaroorat kam hai. Central government ne 2005-06 mein 321.2 crore aur 2012-13 mein 547.95 crore is project ke initial stages ke liye allocate kiya tha, par yeh implement nahi hua. Action committee, jiski presidency M.A. Alauddin aur secretary K. Girija Vallabhan ke hath mein hai, ne recently Union Ministers Suresh Gopi aur George Kurian se milkar is project ko phir se chalane ke liye request ki.

Proposal is there for quite long. But considering PGT division's track record in laying new lines, this will remain on paper only.
