Saw an unknown empty LHB rake with AC & non AC coaches hauled by an electric loco going towards TVC. Crossed my Malabar express few kms after KZK. Could it be the rake for 16312 ??

I've seen that the train boards mostly have Mangaluru in the name but the train announcements all throughout kerala refer to it as Mangalapuram. Can it be a local name for the city? It isn't official but many people do refer to it as Mangalapuram. What is the origin of this name?

This city is named after Mangala Devi. Ooru means place and Pura means locality in Kannada. Call as Mangala Ooru or Mangala Pura means same.
In Kannada, it is Mangala ooru = Mangaluru or Mangalore. Railways should not refer Mangalore as Mangalapuram. Creating confusion.
Of course in Tulu, people refer this city as Kudla, which is very popular.

On a different note, in Kannada, ,കോഴിക്കോട്‌ Kozhikode is always referred as Kallikote (ಕಲ್ಲೀಕೋಟೆ). But buses oroginating from Mysore write this as ಕೋಝೀಕೋಡ್ (Kojikode) confusing both Kannadigas and Malayalees.

How about Kasaragod's Hosadurga ಹೊಸದುರ್ಗ called as Puthiyakotta പുതിയ കോട്ട in Malayalam? Utter confusion

They should make these names more popular is what I'm insisting. Alleppey or Allapuzha becomes Allapujha in pronunciation in some states. With name changing going on all around the country, even Hyderabad is referred to as Bhagyanagaram by many and many have insisted on changing the name. People say it is cultural reasons as the city is named after Hyder after one of the nizam kings but it is actually the name of one of the kings lover, Hyder Mahal, who was formerly called Bagmati(hence Bhagyanagaram - the city of luck). I prefer Hyderabad but the other names should be popularized. Same case with Kovai ( Coimbatore) , Kolkata is referred to as Kalakattha while pronuncing in Telugu, even Kannada , Malayalam I think. Rajamundry/Rajamahendravaram, Visakhapatnam/Vizag/Waltair. So many examples. Popularizing these will help in many ways.

No need to popularize Mangalore as Mangalapuram. Mangalore is known everywhere as Mangalore only , except in Kerala. So Malayalees to learn the correct name of the city as Mangalore.

Nothing but stupidity from SR. Yes, Mangala Devi temple is very famous. But nowhere, it is Mangalapuram. It is Mangaluru only. Locals call it as Kudla in Tulu.

If you start popularising all local unconventional names, there is no end. Cannot comment about Hyderabad. But Kovai, Nellai, Trichy, Thanjai, Kanchi are the popular / short names for their full names Coimbatore, Tirunelveli, Tiruchirappalli, Thanjavur, Kanchipuram.

Railways should refer the names by their official names only - not the way how people in neighbouring state call. Just because Mangalore comes under Kerala's Palakkad division, can they change the name of a Karnataka city? 🤔
