Ranchi to Kota, Exam on sunday (9 am) in fog season.
Note: Exam dates not released but would probably be in Dec - jan , i.e. peak of fog season.
So, Which option would be best citing delays due to fog expected?
1. Ranchi rajdhani on thursday and then any evening train from New delhi to kota to reach Kota on Saturday morning. (Buffer...

at NDLS/NZM of around 8-11 hrs) (Also TAT of Rajdhani at RNC is 7 hrs)
2. On Thursday, Dhanbad Jabalpur by Shaktipunj exp + Dayodaya exp to Kota to reach saturday morning (buffer at JBP of 6 hrs) (TAT of Shaktipunj at HWH is 9 hrs and that of Dayodaya at JBP is around 11 hrs)
3. On Thursday dep for Patna and catch PPTA UDZ HS, departing at 0027 hrs from DNR and aerive Kota at 0200 hrs on Saturday. (TAT at PPTA is 3 hrs)
4. Patna Kota exp arriving Kota at 1255 hrs on Saturday. (TAT at PNBE of 14 hrs)
Suggest best option in fog season as per the trend of delays in previous years.
Return is not a problem, return can be delayed by hours, that doesn't matter.

See, exam dates have not arrived yet. Its just a probability that the exam would now be held in Dec - Jan ( high probability now since vendor/ exam organiser will be selected by 8 nov). I put sunday here as hypothetical day of exam. By this I got an idea of which route to take in the fog affected conditions.

If date of exam is not fixed, hte -bsp -ngp route qith interchange at ngp is one more option , you can catch coimbatore/ngp -jaipur or tambaram bgkt hs etc from ngp

Oh great then. Do consider SHM UDZ as your first choice. It'll give a perfect run till KMZ at least, and has got LHB rakes as well.
Maybe you shouldn't forget SHM JP Special as well, on the same timings as above. Probably, it'll get an extension for Winter holidays.
